Public hearing for accused Guelph cop set for Wednesday
Officer charged with sexual assault, discreditable conduct
A public hearing will be held Wednesday for a Guelph police officer charged with sexual assault and discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act.
Const. Christopher Doering was charged in April 2022 following an investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police.
The charges stem from an alleged incident involving a female victim that occurred while Doering was on duty on Jan. 12, 2022.
Hearing to be held at Guelph Police Service headquarters
The hearing will be held at Guelph Police Service headquarters at 170 Carden St. starting at 9 a.m.
The hearing will be open to the public, but the public will not be allowed to participate in the proceedings.
Allegations include sexual assault and discreditable conduct
Doering is facing one count of sexual assault and one count of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act.
The discreditable conduct charge relates to allegations that Doering engaged in inappropriate communication with the victim after the alleged assault.
Officer suspended with pay after charges laid
Doering has been suspended with pay since the charges were laid.
He is scheduled to appear in court on the criminal charges on Aug. 29.
