German football renaissance highlighted by thrilling Nations League victory over Hungary
Flick's men continue impressive form under new management
Germany's resurgence under Hansi Flick was underlined on Saturday evening as they edged out a spirited Hungary side 1-0 in the Nations League.
Kai Havertz's first-half goal proved to be the difference in Leipzig, as the Germans extended their unbeaten run under Flick to seven matches.
Despite their dominance in possession, Germany found clear-cut chances hard to come by against a well-organized Hungary team.
However, Havertz's moment of quality on the stroke of half-time ultimately proved decisive.
The Chelsea forward, who has been in fine form for his club this season, latched onto a pass from Jamal Musiala and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Hungary, who had held England to a draw in Budapest earlier in the week, gave Germany a stern test in the second half but were unable to find a way past a resolute German defense.
The victory sees Germany move top of Group A3 in the Nations League, while Hungary remain third.
Germany will now face Italy in their next Nations League fixture on Tuesday, while Hungary will host England.
