German Court Convicts Man for War Crimes Committed in Bosnia and Ukraine
Celle Court Finds Defendant Guilty of Aiding and Abetting War Crimes
Sentencing Expected in Coming Weeks
Celle, Germany - A German court has convicted a man of war crimes committed in both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine. The defendant, identified only as "A," was found guilty of aiding and abetting war crimes by providing weapons and ammunition to Bosnian Serb forces during the Bosnian War in the 1990s and to pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine in 2014.
The court heard evidence that "A" had been involved in the sale and transport of weapons from Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they were used by Bosnian Serb forces to commit atrocities against Bosnian Muslims.
"A" was also found to have been involved in the supply of weapons and ammunition to pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, who have been fighting against Ukrainian government forces since 2014.
The court's verdict is a significant development in the fight against war crimes and sends a strong message that those who aid and abet such crimes will be held accountable.
Sentencing is expected to be handed down in the coming weeks.
