Titanic passenger's postcard to Norwich fetches £20,000
A postcard sent by a Titanic passenger to her Norwich friend has sold at auction for £20,000.
The postcard was written by Kate Buss on board the Titanic on 10 April 1912, just four days before the ship sank.
In the postcard, Kate tells her friend Alice Middleton that she was having a wonderful time on the ship and that she was looking forward to arriving in New York.
She also mentions that she had seen icebergs, but that she was not worried about them.
The postcard was discovered in a loft in Norwich in 2020 and was sold at auction by Henry Aldridge & Son in Devizes, Wiltshire, on Wednesday.
The postcard was bought by a private collector and will now be displayed in a museum.
Kate Buss was one of the 1,517 people who died when the Titanic sank.
She was travelling with her husband and two children, who also died.
Alice Middleton received the postcard a few days after the Titanic sank and kept it for the rest of her life.
She never forgot her friend Kate and often spoke about the postcard.
The postcard is a poignant reminder of the tragedy of the Titanic and the lives that were lost.
It is also a reminder of the importance of friendship and the power of words.
