Sergey Rebrov: "There will always be criticism. Even if we play in the final of the European Championship"
Ukrainian coach Sergey Rebrov talks about the difficulties of coaching in Hungary, the secrets of successful work with young players, and his expectations from the upcoming season
- Sergey, your team Ferencvaros started the season very well. Confidently won the championship and the Hungarian Cup, got into the group stage of the Europa League, and after the draw many experts called the group "gold". What is your assessment of the club's performance over the past season?
- We have spent a good season, all the tasks that were set at the beginning of the season have been completed. In the championship, they got 10 points ahead of the closest pursuer, they confidently reached the final of the Hungarian Cup, although in the end they gave us the trophy in a difficult fight. We also played well in European competitions. They got into the Europa League group, this is a big success for the club, and, in principle, they passed a difficult group, beating Bayer and Celtic at home. It is a pity that they did not make it to the playoffs, there was not enough experience, but, nevertheless, for Ferencvaros this season in European cups was a success.
- How did you manage to make the team the undisputed leader of Hungarian football?
- It was not easy, since when I came to the club, it had not won anything for a long time. We had to work hard and hard to create a team that would play well and achieve results. I think we succeeded, and now Ferencvaros is the strongest club in Hungary.
- What is the secret of your success?
- There is no secret, we just work hard and try to play good football. Of course, there is a certain philosophy that I adhere to in my work, but I will not talk about it now. The main thing is that the players believe in me and are ready to work hard to achieve their goals.
- Ferencvaros has a lot of young players. How do you work with them, how do you help them adapt to adult football?
- I love working with young players. They are full of energy and enthusiasm, they are always eager to learn and improve. I try to create an environment in which they can develop and grow. I give them a chance to play and make mistakes, I help them analyze their mistakes and work on their shortcomings.
- What are your expectations from the upcoming season?
- Our goal is to win the championship and the Hungarian Cup again. We also want to play well in the Europa League and reach the playoffs. I think we have a good team that can achieve these goals.
- You have been working in Hungary for several years now. How do you like this country and what are your impressions of the Hungarian championship?
- I like Hungary. This is a beautiful country with friendly people. The Hungarian championship is quite strong, there are several good teams here. I think Ferencvaros is one of the strongest clubs in Hungary, and I am sure that we will continue to be successful.
- What is the biggest challenge for you as a coach?
- The biggest challenge for me is to create a team that will play well and achieve results. I also want to help young players develop and grow. I think that a coach should be not only a tactician and strategist, but also a psychologist. He must be able to motivate players and create a positive atmosphere in the team.
- What advice would you give to young coaches?
- I would advise young coaches to work hard and learn from experienced colleagues. It is also important to have your own philosophy and to believe in yourself. And, of course, you need to be patient, because success does not come immediately.
