OPP Close Down Highway 7/8 Following Serious Accident

Travel Delays Expected As Police Investigate

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have closed Highway 7/8 in both directions following a serious accident on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. near the town of Elmira, approximately 20 kilometers north of Kitchener.

According to the OPP, a transport truck and a passenger vehicle collided, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the transport truck was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The OPP is currently investigating the cause of the accident. Highway 7/8 is expected to remain closed for several hours while police conduct their investigation and clear the wreckage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The OPP has set up detours for both directions of Highway 7/8.

For traffic traveling eastbound: Motorists are advised to take Highway 85 north to Highway 401 eastbound.

For traffic traveling westbound: Motorists are advised to take Highway 401 westbound to Highway 85 southbound.
