Kelowna teams secure spot at provincials with strong performances at Okanagan Valley championship

Two Kelowna volleyball teams are headed to the provincial championships after strong performances at the Okanagan Valley tournament over the weekend. The Okanagan Mission Huskies and Kelowna Secondary School Owls both secured their spots at the B.C. senior girls volleyball championships, which will be held in Langley from Nov. 24 to 26.

OKM finished first in their pool with a 3-0 record, while KSS finished second with a 2-1 record. In the semifinals, OKM defeated the Clarence Fulton Maroons 2-0, while KSS defeated the Lord Byng Grey Ghosts 2-0. In the final, OKM defeated KSS 2-0 to win the Okanagan Valley championship.

Both teams will now represent the Okanagan Valley at the provincial championships. OKM will be making their third straight appearance at the provincials, while KSS will be making their first appearance since 2019.

The provincial championships will be a tough test for both teams, but they will be hoping to make a strong showing. OKM is ranked No. 3 in the province, while KSS is ranked No. 5.

The Huskies are led by a strong group of Grade 12 players, including Olivia Kupferschmidt, who was named the tournament MVP at the Okanagan Valley championships. The Owls are also led by a strong group of Grade 12 players, including Emma Holmes, who was named a tournament all-star.

Both teams will be hoping to make a deep run at the provincial championships. OKM will be looking to improve on their fourth-place finish from last year, while KSS will be looking to make a strong showing in their first appearance at the provincials since 2019.
