Essen, Germany - March 8, 2023 - A World War II-era bomb was successfully defused on Wednesday in the Rüttenscheid entertainment district of Essen, Germany. The operation, which began at around 10:30 am local time, involved the evacuation of nearby buildings and the closure of several roads.
The bomb, a 250-kilogram aerial bomb, was discovered during construction work on Tuesday. Police and firefighters cordoned off the area and called in the bomb disposal squad.
The bomb disposal experts carefully removed the bomb from the construction site and transported it to a nearby field, where it was safely detonated. The entire operation took several hours, but no injuries were reported.
