Singh says speech will focus on affordability, climate change and reconciliation
Party unveils priorities ahead of fall sitting of legislature
The NDP will outline its agenda for the upcoming fall sitting of the legislature in the Throne Speech next week, party leader Jagmeet Singh said Tuesday.
Singh said the speech will focus on three key areas: affordability, climate change and reconciliation.
“We're going to be talking about the things that matter most to Canadians,” Singh said in a statement.
- Affordability: The NDP will propose measures to make life more affordable for Canadians, including a national dental care program, a universal pharmacare program, and a $20-a-day child care program.
- Climate change: The NDP will propose measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and invest in clean energy, including a $15-billion green infrastructure fund and a $2-billion fund to help workers transition to new jobs in the clean energy sector.
- Reconciliation: The NDP will propose measures to advance reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, including a new Indigenous child welfare system and a national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
