The former Belgian player believes that Italy is the team to beat, with Jannik Sinner leading the charge
The 2024 Davis Cup is set to begin in Malaga this Tuesday, and former Belgian player Kristof Vliegen has given his expert opinion on the favorites. Vliegen believes that Italy is the team to beat, with Jannik Sinner leading the charge.
"Italy is clearly the favorite," Vliegen said. "They have a great team, with Sinner leading the way. He's one of the best players in the world, and he's only going to get better." Vliegen said Italy's depth is also a major advantage. "They have a lot of good players, and they can put out a strong team no matter who they're playing," he said.
Vliegen said Italy's recent success in the Davis Cup also gives them an edge."They won the title in 2021 and 2022, so they know what it takes to win," he said. "They're a very experienced team, and they're going to be tough to beat."
Vliegen said other teams could challenge Italy for the title, but he doesn't think any team is as strong.
