Grey-Bruce's Living Wage Now $23.05 per Hour
New report shows increase of $1.60 from previous year
Living Wage Reflects Real Cost of Living
A new report has revealed that the living wage in Grey-Bruce has increased to $23.05 per hour, a rise of $1.60 from the previous year.
The living wage is calculated based on the actual cost of living in a particular area and takes into account expenses such as housing, food, transportation, and childcare.
The report, conducted by the Grey Bruce Poverty Task Force, found that the basic necessities for a family of four in Grey-Bruce now cost over $63,000 per year. This represents an increase of over $2,000 from the previous year.
The rise in the living wage is due to a number of factors, including:
- Increased housing costs: Rents and home prices have been rising steadily in Grey-Bruce, making it more difficult for people to afford housing.
- Inflation: The cost of food and other essential items has also been increasing, putting a strain on household budgets.
- Lack of affordable childcare: The cost of childcare is a major expense for many families, making it difficult for parents to work.
The report's authors are calling on employers in Grey-Bruce to pay a living wage to their employees.
The Grey Bruce Poverty Task Force is a coalition of organizations working to reduce poverty in Grey-Bruce. The task force is funded by the United Way of Bruce Grey.
