Davis Cup: Alcaraz Wins Hard-Fought Match to Tie Series
Carlos Alcaraz came from behind to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in four sets on Saturday, drawing Spain level at 1-1 in their Davis Cup quarter-final against Canada.
Alcaraz, 19, won 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-7(2), 7-5 in three hours and 52 minutes in Malaga, Spain.
The win ensured Spain would take the tie to a decisive doubles match on Sunday, with Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez set to face Auger-Aliassime and Vasek Pospisil.
Alcaraz showed great determination in winning the match, especially after losing the third set in a tie-break.
He broke serve in the 11th game of the fourth set and served out the match to level the tie and keep Spain's hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive.
Earlier, Auger-Aliassime had given Canada the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Roberto Bautista Agut.
The victory was an important one for Alcaraz, who is playing in his first Davis Cup tie.
It also gives Spain a chance to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2019.
Canada will be hoping to win the doubles match on Sunday and reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2013.
