Celtics News: Full Injury Report for Cavaliers Matchup
Four Celtics Players Listed as Out for Wednesday's Game
The Boston Celtics will be without four players when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. Jayson Tatum (left groin strain), Jaylen Brown (right ankle sprain), Marcus Smart (right quad contusion), and Robert Williams III (left knee soreness) have all been ruled out for the contest.
Tatum and Brown Expected to Miss Multiple Games
Tatum and Brown are both expected to miss multiple games with their respective injuries. Tatum has been dealing with the groin strain since Boston's win over the Indiana Pacers on Jan. 18, while Brown suffered the ankle sprain in Monday's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Smart and Williams are both listed as day-to-day and could potentially return to the lineup sooner than Tatum and Brown. Smart missed Monday's game with the quad contusion, while Williams has been bothered by knee soreness for much of the season.
Celtics Will Need to Step Up in Absence of Key Players
The Celtics will need to find a way to step up in the absence of their four injured players. Boston has a deep roster, but they will need some of their less experienced players to step up and contribute in a big way.
Romeo Langford, Aaron Nesmith, and Payton Pritchard are all expected to see increased roles with Tatum and Brown out of the lineup. Langford has been impressive in limited minutes this season, averaging 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Nesmith has also shown flashes of potential, averaging 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Pritchard is a reliable ball-handler and shooter who can help facilitate the offense in Smart's absence.
Celtics Still Favored Against Cavaliers
Despite the injuries, the Celtics are still favored to beat the Cavaliers on Wednesday night. Cleveland is just 19-36 on the season and has lost four of their last five games.
The Celtics will need to play well to win without Tatum and Brown, but they should have enough talent to get the job done.
