Canada Overcome Recent Struggles with 2-1 Victory
After a disappointing 2-0 loss to Panama in their opening game of Concacaf Nations League qualifying, Canada rebounded with a 2-1 victory over Suriname on Sunday, June 5th, 2023. Alphonso Davies opened the scoring for Canada in the 15th minute with a cool finish after receiving a pass from Jonathan Osorio in the area.
Despite the early lead, Canada was pegged back by Suriname in the 53rd minute when Gleofilo Vlijter equalized for the hosts. However, the Canadians responded quickly and secured the victory in the 66th minute through a second goal from Davies, who was set up by Tajon Buchanan.
The win was a much-needed boost for Canada, who are now second in their group behind Panama.
Mexico Suffer Surprising Defeat to Honduras
Mexico, the 11th-ranked team in FIFA's World Rankings, suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Honduras in their Concacaf Nations League qualifying opener on Saturday, June 4th, 2023.
