Boston Bruins Fire Head Coach Jim Montgomery
Back-to-back playoff exits under Montgomery
Bruins management cites "philosophical differences"
One day after being eliminated from the playoffs in the second round for the second consecutive season, the Boston Bruins have fired head coach Jim Montgomery.
Montgomery, who was hired in 2022, led the Bruins to a 51-26-5 record in his first season, finishing second in the Atlantic Division.
However, the Bruins were upset by the New York Islanders in the first round of the playoffs, and this year they were eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.
In a statement, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said that the team and Montgomery had "philosophical differences" that led to the decision to fire him.
Sweeney said that he will begin searching for a new coach immediately, and that he hopes to have one in place before the NHL Draft on June 28.
The Bruins have a number of potential candidates to replace Montgomery, including former head coach Bruce Cassidy, who is currently an assistant coach with the Vegas Golden Knights.
