Barrie police converge on north end parking lot, possible firearm in vehicle

Police shutdown parking lot at Fairview Road and Veterans Drive

Officers with Barrie police are currently at a parking lot in Barrie’s north end where a vehicle has been stopped and a possible firearm located.

Police say they were called to the area of Fairview Road and Veterans Drive at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Responding officers located the vehicle in a parking lot and stopped it. Officers surrounded and blocked off the parking lot where the vehicle is parked.

Police say the vehicle is occupied and officers are speaking to the individuals inside. The driver of the vehicle has been detained for further investigation.

Police say they located a possible firearm inside the vehicle and are continuing to investigate. No charges have been laid at this time.

The parking lot is currently closed as police investigate. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Police say they will provide more information when it becomes available.
