Airbus CEO: CFM Engine Deliveries Are Achievable, But Tight

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said on Wednesday that engine deliveries from CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric and Safran Aircraft Engines, are achievable but will be tight.

Speaking at a press conference in Toulouse, Faury said that Airbus is working closely with CFM to ensure that the engine maker meets its delivery commitments.

However, he acknowledged that the supply chain is currently constrained and that there are some risks to the delivery schedule.

"We are working very closely with CFM to make sure that we can mitigate those risks and deliver the aircraft on time," Faury said.

CFM is the sole supplier of engines for the Airbus A320neo family of aircraft. The A320neo is Airbus's best-selling aircraft, and it is currently in high demand from airlines around the world.

In 2021, Airbus delivered a record 611 A320neo family aircraft. The company plans to deliver more than 700 A320neo family aircraft in 2022.

CFM has been struggling to keep up with demand for its engines. The company has been hit by supply chain disruptions and labor shortages.

In October 2021, CFM announced that it would be cutting production of its LEAP-1A engines by 40%. The LEAP-1A is the engine that powers the A320neo family of aircraft.

CFM said that the production cut was necessary to address the supply chain disruptions and labor shortages.

Despite the production cut, CFM said that it was still committed to meeting its delivery commitments to Airbus.
